ADVISORY COUNCIL
----------------------------------------
[X] Kevin Mannix, State Rep., co-chair
* He wrote what later became known as Anti-Gun bill, House
Bill 2535.
* He supported Senator Ginny Burdick's Anti-Gun position
during the Oregon 1999 Legislative Session.
* He convinced Sen. Ginny Burdick to drop Senate Bill 700 in
favor of HIS BILL, House Bill 2535, which he wrote and
which he thought "everyone" would support.
* He was the one that carried H.B.2535 out of his committee
(House Judiciary Committee on Criminal Law) and onto the
House floor for a vote.
* He personally slammed Pro-Gun Organizations, Gun owners of
America and Oregon Firearms Federation on the House floor
for their opposition to the gun control bill, H.B.2535
* He called Gun Owners of America and Oregon Firearms
Federation liars on the House floor. On several ocassions,
while on the House floor he stated, "They would have you
believe.....", and continued on to call Gunowners of
America and Oregon Firearm Federation liars even though
they had told their members the truth about H.B.2535.
* He personally attacked Oregon Firearms Federation
representative, Kevin Starrett, on the House floor for
telling the truth about H.B. 2535. Mannix stated that what
Kevin Starrett had said about H.B.2535 was not true, when
in fact it was nothing but the truth.
* Openly misrepresented H.B.2535 on the House floor regarding
the legal ramifications of H.B.2535 and how it could affect
gun owners and their individual rights and freedoms in
Oregon.
* H.B.2770 - Although he wrote and sponsored House Bill 2770
which would have given gunowners a one time tax credit of
$100 *OR* *LESS* for the purchase of a firearm safe he DID
NOT support House Bill 2790 which would have given gun
owners a one time tax credit for an amount *EQUAL* *TO*
their cost of a firearm safe - whatever that cost may have
been. In other words, Mannix's bill, H.B.2770 did not offer
gun owners the increased benefits of H.B. 2790. Mannix's
name never appeared on H.B.2770 as a supporter of that
better bill for gunowners.
* Sponsored House Bill 2902 which continued to require that
the state keep records on all gun owners who had concealed
carry permits. This bill also retained the current FEE
requirements before a law abiding citizen could obtain a
concealed carry permit.
[X] Veral Tarno, State Senator
* Sen. Veral Tarno supported Senate Bill 700 until just
before a committee vote, when after receiving mail
generated by Oregon Firearms Federation and Gunowners of
America, he changed his stance and voted NO in committee.
* He lashed out at Kevin Starrett, of Oregon Firearms
Federation, during the hearings on Senate Bill 700,
complaining about the mail he had received. Tarno blamed
Kevin Starrett for the heat he was getting from his
constituents
* In the OGO publication Tarno called gun ownership a
"privilege".
[X] Lynn Lundquist, State Senator
* As member of the House during the 1999 Legislative Session
he voted for H.B.2535
* Lundquist was also the "Republican" who forced S.B. 700 out
of a House Committee where pro gun Roger Beyer had it
bottled up after it passed in the Senate. Joining with the
committee's Democrats, Lundquist signed a letter forcing a
vote on the bill in the House Commerce Committee.
[X] Gordon Smith, U.S. Senator
* As a U.S. Senator he is the Point man for new gun control
in U.S. Senate.
[X] Brady Adams, State Senator
* Voted YES on Senate Bill 700
* Voted YES on House Bill 2535
* During the 1999 Legislative Session he pulled Pro-Gun
Senators off of committees and replaced them with himself
so as to guarantee a Anti-Gun vote.
[X] Jane Lokan, State Representative
* Voted YES on H.B.2535
[X] Lonnie Roberts, Former State Representative
* Rose on House Floor to condemn a former police chief who
used a firearm in a legitimate self-defense shooting.
* Demanded that laws be changed so people could no longer
protect themselves with guns.
* One of his main complaints was that out of state police
officers who had been honorably retired were allowed to
carry guns in Oregon. Lonnie Roberts demanded that the law
be changed to disallow this.
[X] Neil Bryant, State Senator
* Helped Anti-Gun Senator Ginny Burdick write Senate Bill 700.
* Worked to get S.B.700 out of committee and onto the Senate
floor for a vote.
* Senator Ginny Burdick personally thanked Neil Bryant on the
Senate floor for his help and assistance in creating Senate
Bill 700 when S.B. 700 came to the Senate floor for a vote.
* He voted for S.B.700 in the Senate.
* After House Bill 2535 was passed by the House, it went to
Neil Bryant's Senate Committee on the Judicary. Once that
bill entered his committee he worked fast to rubber stamp
that bill to bring it to the Senate floor for a vote.
* He voted in committee to send H.B. 2535 to the Senate floor
for a vote after it passed the House.
* He voted for House Bill 2535 when the bill came to the
Senate floor.
